Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I have been named the Assistant Principal of Our Lady of Victory School. I am truly honored to accept this new role and look forward to continuing my work with Mrs. Castilla-Bryne, as well as the rest of our staff, in our efforts to advance the achievement of all students. Working together, I am confident that we will continue to provide our students with a truly challenging and enriching school experience.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I attended Iona College and received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education with a concentration in English. I also hold a Master's Dual Degree in Special Education and Literacy Degree. The 2019-2020 school year will mark my twelfth year in education. I’ve taught at the early childhood and elementary levels, primarily in pre-kindergarten and first grade. Within the last two years, I have designed and implemented the “Reteach and Enrich (RED) Program”, which increased academic development in English Language Arts and Mathematics for grades K-2. Through the use of this program, we are able to improve learning for all students at different levels, use research and data to improve practice, persist through difficulties and setbacks, and celebrate accomplishments. I am elated to share that this program has now been adopted by several surrounding schools in an attempt to narrow the achievement gap. Outside of work, I am the proud mother of a four-year-old boy, who also attends Our Lady of Victory School. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, and taking on new adventures.
The students of Our Lady of Victory School are the future, and it takes all of us to be actively involved in their education. My objective this year is to ensure your child is developing emotionally, socially, and academically in a positive and nurturing environment, as well as to assist Mrs. Castilla Byrne with all the great ideas and initiatives at our school. I believe that with a positive attitude, a growth mindset, and good character anyone can achieve great things. I strive to instill those qualities in our young people so they can reach beyond their expectations to become lifelong learners who will make the world a better place.
In closing, please know that my door is always open to help, support, and focus on what is best for our students. I heartily welcome your input as an Our Lady of Victory parent and guardian. I look forward to celebrating all of our wonderful successes with you and our students throughout the upcoming year.
Respectfully,
Cristina Moreira
Assistant Principal
