Meet the Teacher:
My name is Ms. Stefanie Ferraro. This is my 7th year here at Our Lady of Victory School. I have a bachelor’s degree in sociology and I received a master’s degree in Students with Disabilities 1-6 and Childhood Education. I have been teaching for 12 years. I teach grades 3,4, and 5 Social Studies, Science, and Life skill. I am a firm believer in having an enriched program filled with many hands-on activities.
Grade 5 Curriculum:
Social Studies - Teacher Ms. Ferraro
Western Hemisphere
Our Social Studies curriculum comes from the Discovery Education website. The curriculum incorporates social studies and English language arts. This website is filled with lesson plans, assessments, videos, articles, project ideas, and handouts. The website also breaks down each lesson and matches it with the appropriate NYS learning standard. During Home Economic and Life Skills courses, our students will establish skills and strategies for lifelong well-being and promote caring for the well-being of others. Some of the topics include personal and interpersonal skills, health promotion, human growth and development, and safety.
Science - Teacher: Ms. Ferraro
The Discovery Education Techbook covers the following topics: matter and energy in organisms and ecosystems, the Earth’s major systems, and the structure and properties of matter
ELA - Departmental Teacher: Ms. Moroni (click here to learn more about her)
ELA consists of reading, writing, grammar, and spelling/vocabulary. I will be using the New York Progress (English Language Arts) for all my classes. These books are aligned with Common Core Standards with emphasis on reading for information, reading literature, writing essays, and building and enhancing vocabulary. The curriculum used includes six modules that focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Each module is intended to last a quarter of a school year; the addition of two extra modules allows for teacher choice throughout the year. The modules will sequence and scaffold content that is aligned to the CCLS for ELA & Literacy.
Mathematics - Departmental Teacher: Ms. Yannaco (click here to learn more about her)
The Great Minds Eureka topics include: place value, fractions, and decimals, addition/subtraction and multiplication/division of fractions and decimals, volume and area, coordinate planes
Religion - Departmental Teacher: Ms. Yannaco (click here to learn more about her)
The Sadlier’s Christ in Us covers the following topics: an examination of conscience, respect for life, virtues of holiness, Ten Commandments, Final Judgement, covenant, Christian Season, corporal and spiritual works of Mercy, Lent, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Catholic Church. Our lessons will focus on what we believe, how we celebrate what we believe, how we live, and how we become what we believe.
