Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year.
It is a privilege and honor to be the ELA teacher for grades 6-8. I am Judithann Henry-Brathwaite aka “Ms. Henry” and I have been teaching for over 25 years. Teaching is a work of art and my passion for it is unending.
8th Grade Curriculum
English Language Arts:
ELA consists of reading, writing, grammar, and spelling/vocabulary. I will be using the New York Progress (English Language Arts) for all my classes. These books are aligned with Common Core Standards with emphasis on reading for information, reading literature, writing essays, and building and enhancing vocabulary.
The curriculum used includes six modules that focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Each module is intended to last a quarter of a school year; the addition of two extra modules allows for teacher choice throughout the year. The modules will sequence and scaffold content that is aligned with the CCLS for ELA & Literacy.
